6 Wings of Prayer (part three)
Ask God for Wisdom and Knowledge far beyond your ability
1. Marriage
2. Career
3. Relationships
4. Choices
5. Purchases
6. Retirement decisions
7. Financial management
8. Political choices
James 1:5-8 -- “If you need wisdom--if you want to know what God wants you to do--ask him, and he will gladly tell you. He will not resent your asking. But when you ask him, be sure that you really expect him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. People like that should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. They can't make up their minds. They waver back and forth in everything they do.”

You have to see this
Watch for me in the human trapeze about 3/4 through. I am not flying, just holding the guys up.
Out of this world.
Out of this world.
Alpha
One of the things I love about Alpha is listening to peoples comments about how they feel about their new relationship with Christ. Dara and I were talking about how amazing it is.
One of the most common phrases is "I just have so much peace, you cant explain it." I love to hear it.
Philipians 4:7
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
I love to see the fruit of the spirit growing in people's lives. It is all about life change!

Randomness
While I was helping Dara clean up after Alpha, I had this strange thought. I was scrubbing the hound out of a cooker. One of those electric roasting pans. Well I had a scrub pad and some soap and water, and working away.
Now it occurred to me that I am able to use a brillo pad and not scratch or damage the finish on this $30 pan, but what about our $30,000 cars? You can park to close to a bush and scratch the fire out of it... Why cant they build cars with type of finish?
Deep thoughts...

6 Wings of Prayer (part one)
I challenge you to pray this through this list today. Spend some time on each area and prayer from your heart. Use the words that come to mind, and don't be afraid to speak commonly to God. He desires us to converse with him just as a father wants his child to speak to him. No fear or anger, distance or hurt feelings. He loves you, He created you, He desires you.
Here is a copy of some of the info Tom has sent me...Notice the Scriptures at the end.
Tell God how much you love Him and why
1. Faithfulness
2. Love
3. Promises
4. Generosity
5. Presence
6. Power
7. Provision
8. Purity
9. Availability
10. Desire to hear and answer our prayers
Matthew 22:36-38 -- "Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?" Jesus replied, "`You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment.”
Psalm 37:4 – “Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires.”
Psalm 84:11 – “For the Lord God is our light and protector. He gives us grace and glory. No good things will the Lord withhold from those who do what is right.”
John 16:24 – “You haven't done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.”
Ephesians 3:18-19 – “And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

Prayer
I have been spending some time with Tom Allen pastor at Point of Grace. He is a very godly man full of wisdom. Well I have been picking his brain about a variety of topics. I have been trying to figure out what has set him apart from some of the other pastors that I have known.
I think I have finally put my finger on it. He has a set regime of things he prays on a daily basis. he has done this since he was 12. Over the next week I will posting each of what Tom calls the Six Wings of Prayer.
He also has a link at his church to download a booklet he and a few others put together. It is a 14 day prayer guide. Awesome.
I have been praying through these my self and it has been great! Be watching for each of the 6 wings of prayer.

Fall at the church
I have been spending some time analyzing the ups and downs of our church in the last few weeks. Where we are strong and where we are weak. We really do a lot of things well, I think. We have a great team that works hard, but given all that there are things in the theater we have to overcome.
Now, I love the theater, it is a great conversation piece. It allows an easy invite to the church. People always ask where do we meet for service. When they hear the theater, they are like how does that work?
But building community in the theater can be difficult. Also creating age appropriate kids experiences is vital as well. So here is what I am going to propose coming this fall.
We are going to be doing some theater moving around, and regrouping. I would love to see us split our kids program into several services. Two Nursery theaters, and three kids services.
The kids services would be Pre K, Kindergarten to 2nd grade, and 3rd-5th. That being said, it will require a lot of set up, tear down, and volunteers. But I feel like for us to continue to reach this city we need to step toward this. Parents with kids want their children in a service geared directly for them. ( I meet lot of people who want to bring their kids to church for the good moral teaching they learn as kids. So I am willing to do whatever to get the parents in to hear some good teaching for them also. So if that means working through the kids to win the parents, I am up for it)
I have run across some good used portable gear. It is only 8 months old and I can buy it for 70% of the new price. Quite the bargain.
I also am looking at moving the entrance we use. In the fall we are going to have a series called Chase the Lion, grabbing life by the mane. We are going to do that as a church as well. We are going to move to using the main entrance and have coffee bar area set up there for before service. It will open at 9:45 and be ready for everyone to fellowship together!
It is going to be great. We need all hands on deck so to speak, so get ready to volunteer and make a difference in some ones elses life! Remember how you have been impacted by God through JCFC and think about how you can impact someone else.
This is going to take some serious prayer, volunteers, and money. Pray about how you will fit!

Organization
I don't know what has come over me, but I have been in this organizer mode. (I know all the women in my life that help me, shout hurrah) I have cleaned out my closet and have everything positioned and arranged. Took a big load to Good Will!
I spent some time yesterday cleaning out my computer and organizing files. It was a monumental task but very necessary. I challenge you, if you are at all like me, to just toss stuff. You don't need EVERYTHING, I know you think you are going to need it, but you probably wont.
I learned from the 43 folders a good trick. To create a folder on your desk top and mark it delete as of such date (one week from the day you create it). Put everything on your desktop in it! What you haven't used my next week, you should probably toss, or file appropriately.
I forced me to go through my whole documents folder, pics, music, movies, everything. I trashed a lot of stuff. Now I am set up, and ready to run.
It may sound stupid, but it helps to me know little things like that are done. In my mind I know and want to do things like this, but on one hand it feels like a "waste of time" to just organize. Really though, it helps me feel a little relaxed in the back of my mind.
Crazy, but I am becoming one of them...
The office is next.

A Week in review
I love the 4th of July, but I have to say I like it better closer to a weekend!
Super Saturday was great today, and I think we connected with a couple new families!
I got to have dinner with my friend Herbert Cooper from the the Peoples Church in OKC on Monday along with his family. Great time.
I am super excited about James right now. Tomorrow is chapter 4 and next week chapter 5. I have had several people confirm they are reading right along with me as they stud during the week! Awesome
We got some great family time in this week. I am trying to make sure my family get the best portion of Josh, not just the leftovers.
I started my marathon training this week! Woohoo! I have been sweating it out, and for a guy who hasnt run much in the past years I am up to 6 miles without stopping.
My goal is to be at 10 before next Friday!
I made some phone calls today and was able to connect with some people who have been coming and have had some questions. I love being able to connect with people if only for a few minutes over the phone!
Sundays are so busy, and it is nice to have a couple minutes without being rushed!
Take some time to build some community with some of those from the church this week! Invite someone to your home for supper or just some coffee! Its great!
By the way the link to Dara's blog is fixed from the last post, you can see my sister's wedding now!

Weekend Update
Wow, what a weekend.
We went to my sisters wedding this weekend in STL. It was great to be a part of her marriage! We jammed home after the Saturday afternoon wedding to be home for service this weekend!
check out Dara's Blog to see some pics!
We had 123 in service at least 2 give their heart to Jesus.
Also a new family has committed to being a part of JCFC. Awesome.
I had a phone conversation with a family that is going to try to be here Sunday. They do attend another church, but it is too far for them to get their neighbors to come with them. The want to be able to impact their neighborhood. SO they are looking for something closer!
What a servants heart. They want to do what God is leading them to do!
Had an awesome lunch today with a great guy in the church who is moving forward with his decision to follow Christ and is ready to be baptized!
We are having a Baptism and Bar-B-Q in September to accommodate everyone's schedule!
At this point we have 12 people ready to be baptized! It is going to be awesome.
If you havent been baptized since you have believed, now is the time. The New Testament teaches that baptism happens after you give your life to Jesus. It is an awesome step to show everyone you have made a commitment to Jesus!
Join us in Baptism!

Time Management
I think this is an issue for everyone. I am hooked on the website 43 folders. I am reading a book about project management. We are going through our staff, and logging some time on when we work. We are making lists in the morning or the night before to accomplish what we need to get done.
But no matter how you slice it, time is a hot commodity. Once it is gone, it's gone.
I have some natural tendencies that aren't always good. I am a bit over the top in a lot of areas. One is working. I can get in the zone, be focused and seriously work to death. So in the last 6-7 months I have tried hard to purposely take some time to relax.
God set up the Sabbath for a reason. We all need rest. I have argued that physical work is relaxing for me, but its not really accurate. So yesterday, we had a late lunched planned. And I shifted some things around, so we could take a few hours as family time.
I shut my phone off, and we didn't tell anyone where we were going. The 4 of us just hung out, laughed and had a good time.
I want my kids to look back on their childhood and remember a Dad who spent time with them, not someone who only spent time with the people of the church. I want Awnna, Colin and for sure Dara to know that they are priority to me.
I know I am getting through, because, we did this a few weeks ago as well. I had cancelled some meetings and cleared the rest of the day. At the end of the day, Awnna told me thanks for clearing my calendar and spending time with them.
The truth is we only have 18 summers with our kids, don't let it get away from you. The memories you create now are what last for them!

Colin as Superman
My Mom bought Colin a set of SuperMan pajamas. He loves them. It has a cape and everything!
Well last night before our "wrestling match" just before bed, he was running around with his cape on! The funny thing is, he was trying to looking backwards and running forward trying to see if fly.
After several attempts he looked up at me, disgusted, and said, "Dad why won't this thing fly."
To which I said, "there is no wind in here." He said quickly, "Lets turn on the dryer then."
I guess to a little boy the dryer puts out all kinds of air...?

Alpha on Wednesday part 2
Well Alpha was a success. I say lots of community taking place, as well as some people being stretched! The first night is pretty light. I unpacked the beginnings of who Jesus is and gave people time to respond.
The rest of the evening was a learning time for everyone to tell why they came to Alpha and some background about their life.
The kids met down a hallway, and the nursery age kids in the teachers lounge! It worked great.
I know next week is going to rock, now that we have some kind of game plan.
I love to see peoples questions and hesitations about the Gospel come out in conversation. It is awesome to see the body of Christ come together with seekers, new believers and mature Christ followers to openly share the truth of God's Word.
If you haven't joined yet, you still can. Register today at www.jordancreek.org under the calender page. Click Alpha and sign in!
You wont want to miss it!

Alpha on Wednesday
Do we ever have an awesome Summer of Alpha planned.
Tomorrow night is our kick off event. We have 50 adults RSVP right now. We are going to build some great community within our church!
If you havent registered go online to jordancreek.org or call me at 205-9895 so we can get the right amount of food prepared.
What I love about Alpha is that fact that is allows people to discuss the truth of God in an open format, so all questions are valid. No one has a dumb question.
We eat a meal together, then I have a prepared teaching time. After that a short break, and your table leaders facilitate some round table discussions. It is awesome how God brings together the thoughts of everyone at the table.
You stay with your same group all 10 weeks. By the time your completed you have journeyed through faith with some new found friends. You are going to love it.
Come check it out! You wont want to miss it.

Awnna
We were at Wal-Mart last night getting some things ready for Alpha. Awnna and Colin were both with me as we went through the line to pay. I as usual struck up some conversation with the guy who was checking us out. Danny was his name, and I just felt impressed to invite him to church.
So as I was chatting with him, looking for an opportunity to come up, Awnna says, "Dad, (and nods sideways with her head) are you going to, you know...?"
She was talking about inviting him to church. I asked if she wanted to do it. She shook her head, and pointed to me.
I then explained to the guy, what had just happened and handed him a James series card. He was super open and said he didnt go to church anywhere, and he really should com sometime.
Praying that he does.
What made my heart glad was knowing that Awnna is seeing opportunity to invite people and knowing that is what it is all about. I was pretty proud of her!
Investing and inviting. That makes the difference in the growth of our church! I am believing God to do some awesome things this summer. Be praying!

Funny phrases
I love to listen to phrases people say. It just cracks me up. Some people have a very unique way of communicating. I love all the styles. Listen to a few phrases by my family, and my friends and my good friend Phil.
"Skins" referring to tires
"my sled" referring to cars
"Rare as hen's teeth"
"thats about as handy as a pay toilet in a diarrhea ward"
"nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs"
more to come later...

Sunday
I have to say, I love what I do. I thought today was just off the hook. I dont know why anyone wouldnt want to come to Jordan Creek Family Church.
Was the band amazing or what? Father's day was so cool, and the videos worked well! James is a tremendous book about putting feet to faith, and I am just pumped!
Invite someone this week to a great church that cares about people. Use the e-invites or the invites from your worship guide today. Connect with that person you have been meaning to this week!
You will be so glad you did!

James Chapter One
I am stoked about tomorrows sermon. Invite someone if you get a minute even late today. You never know who you are going to impact for the kingdom.
We are going through the whole chapter, nearly verse by verse.
Next week we are looking at chapter 2. My favorite book right now is.... James. Go figure.
Read chapter one tonight if you can!

Colins Three Today
Busy Week
Wow, what a week. We have been doing staff performance evaluations this week. It sure creates a crazy week. I know some churches, don't do it at all, but I think it a necessary thing for growth.
Leadership is a tough thing, and it is hard to say and do the tough things. I have been listening a lot to Ralph Moore and TD Jakes. They are always talking about how to empower people, and help each other grow. I am growing so much as leader, and the past two and half years have been the most fun and the most challenging times for me.
I love our church, our team, and the opportunity to grow in this awesome city. There are 350,000 people here who won't be in any kind of church service this weekend. We are going to continue to change that stat, as long as we keep the main thing the main thing.
We are here to help people become fully devoted followers of Christ! Life change happens when we build relationships and encounter God!
Sweet!

James
I have been going through the book of James the past few weeks, and I am super excited to begin this series in James. James is my kind of guy. He just calls it like it is, and makes it plain.
I love it. Use the e-invite this week to connect with some of your friends or invite a neighbor with our new business card size invite!
We will be looking at what James has to say about "spirituality" all month long!

Sunday in the pocket
Finishing up another JCFC Sunday. Getting ready for a big week, and closing one as well!
I am so excited about the summer. This summer of Alpha is going to be amazing!
It will start on Wednesday the 20th at Valley Southwood High School. Beginning at 6:30 ending at 8:30! Meal included! It be great.
Alpha walks us through the basic questions of the faith in an open discussion format! All centered around a meal!
We need your help in making this an amazing success for the church and community! We are preparing meals, and we need volunteers for serving meals, clean up, and childcare.
We will be having at this point Creek Kids age service just for them! We are working on a Nursery Team. If you would like to help or just join Alpha, leave post or call me or something!
We are trying to get as many people there as possible! Lets get to know eachother, and some more about Jesus at the same time!

Mens Fraternity
Just another post about MF. If you havent taken a few minutes to read about this do so today. Log on to MF and check out the concepts and materials.
I look around all the time and see how hard it is to be a real man in todays society. I am not talking about just carrying a pistol and spitting chewing tobacco, or saying that you wrestle alligators, and was a Marine for 14 years lost in the wilderness and survived with only a knife you made out of some molten lava you held in your hand until it cooled.
I am talking about being a husband who actually leads, being a father who can show his kids how to parent and love at the same time. Being a man who can handle some conflict, with grace and tact, but is still firm.
I am talking about having a relationship with Jesus that surpasses what it was yesterday. Living a life everyday that is expecting God's greater reward.
I am not even saying I have all of these things handled, but I am trying to grow in them as well. I can't wait for Men's Fraternity to kick off in the fall! It is going to be great! I am stoked to see what God is up to in our lives as men!

Garage Sales
Man do I love a good garage sale. It is that time of year again, when everyone is selling something. I love a good deal, and the bartering that takes place during a sale is my favorite part.
But it seems that no matter how often you have a garage sale, the next year you still have a bunch more junk you need to get rid of. Ever noticed that? I think the church falls in the same boat. And not with just physical junk we collect. (We have some things in the office right now, that needs to be ebayed. The official garage sale of the known world)
We collect systems, and ways of doing things that sometimes needs to be junked. Sometimes its habits that started out good, and with well intentions, that might have been very useful this time last year. But we have changed, grown, empowered others to help; and we need to "sell" some of the old systems.
We are in the process right now of looking at each department, and seeing how we can retool and revamp for the summer. We want to grow like we did last summer. The summer shouldn't be a barrier for a church, it should be a high spot. So we are going to make it just that.
I am pumped about the "church garage sale."

Shanna
Just thought I'd say what an awesome ministry assistant we have at JCFC. Shanna Kempers is doing a stellar job. She is about 3 and half weeks in to this job for us, and is just great.
She is on top of things even before I ask for it. For example I called her the other day to get a detailed print list of everyones name and phone number in the church. So when I am driving I can call whoever whenever.
Her reply? She is almost done with that, and had already thought of it.... Amazing. That is all I have to say... Amazing
Thanks Shanna!

Renewed Vision
In the past few weeks, God has really just renewed and enlarged my vision for this city. I am amazed at how he brings clarity in the midst of chaos. There are always times of pruning before growth. I feel like God is really pruning somethings in my life personally to set me up to grow as husband, father, and pastor.
Things that are healthy naturally grow. Plants naturally grow, children naturally grow, it is Gods natural design. I believe that we can and should be growing like never before.
It is going to take work on all of our parts. Not just mine. From here on out, we want to empower you to invite your families, and friends to the church! This weekend we will be giving out new tools to invite for the Deeper is Doing series.
You wont want to miss the conclusion of the 10 commands series. We are talking about getting out of the boat! We will be addressing ways to serve, and be a blessing to others!
We cant do this by ourselves.
Check this from Ecclesiastes 4:9,10,12
Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their work:
two can defend themselves.
A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

Punched in the nose
So tonight Colin is sitting next to me at supper. We are all just chatting and eating and having a great time.
The Colin says out of the blue, "Hey Dad." Of course I turn to look at him, only to feel the full force of his pointy little fist in my nose, and hear him shriek with laughter.
He is laughing and says, "I just punched Dad in the nose..."
So I guess we need to go back over the rules of wrestling.
Rule number one, is you only do then WHEN YOU ARE WRESTLING!

Growing the church
I spent quite a bit of time connecting with people today, either or the phone or in person. I sure love making a connection and seeing peoples eyes light up.
I made 6 bread drops tonight to families that came for the first time this weekend. It was great. Everyone was receptive and I think they will enjoy the bread!
I also spoke with some that have missed a few Sundays in a row. It is my heart that everyone that comes, can really feel like they are a part of something real. I want people to know that they matter to me, and mostly they matter to God.
I makes my heart break when I see families who have had their feelings hurt, or a misunderstanding took place. Especially when I have seen such growth in their lives and their families. If you dont have a pastor's heart, you can't understand the feelings.
It really isn't about making sure JCFC is growing, and didn't lose a family, but it is making sure that the family stays connected. Of course we want to grow each week, and of course we want to see the family reconnected, but mostly I want to make sure the devil doesn't pull that new family backwards.
Our motto is helping people become fully devoted followers of Christ. I say all the time, I am willing to do whatever it takes. And I am.
I hope we reached some resolve today with this family.
I know that I was able to connect or re-connect with several others today, which was awesome!

Awesome
Apparently, the running joke about Ol Josh is the way that I respond to emails.
Typically my standard response to an email is simply "awesome." I think that says, I like the idea, go for it, sounds like a plan, I am ready for you to do that etc...
But apparently most think this is humorous. I admit I have replied, "awesome" to emails that were very lengthy, but typically felt like that is what they needed... it has been brought to my attention, that there "may" have been a question or two in the email but...
So I am working on changing that.
Sweet.

Property
Just got off the phone with one of the land owners in the Jordan Creek Area. He is calling me back on Wednesday to schedule a time to meet at his properties.
I told him we would like to build a church on the property, he was kind of shocked, and said in a very kind voice back to me, "you said you'd like to build a church?" I said, "Yes, Sir, we would."
He simply said, "Good."
So everyone pray! If you read this blog or know anyone who is looking for something to pray about, here it is! Mr Etzel is the land owner!
This is a huge milestone in our church development. This is the begining of a long process, but it is exciting!
Remember this, everything we do is for the kingdom. And the kingdom needs to be advanced in the city. There are some 350,000 people not in a church each weekend here. This is another way to change that!
Pray.

Weekend
Sunday was another good day. I had the Sunday off! No pressure for Joshua!
Dara had strep throat and couldnt make it to service. She didnt want to infect everyone, and she couldn't talk let alone sing! The band did a great job covering at the last minute!
Jeff, Rachel, Mindy, Nate, Todd and Obie, You guys did awesome yesterday! Fantastic. If you haven't been able to hear them lately, come out this weekend!
My friend Mark Atterson preached. He and his family is moving to Michigan this week to pursue some Missions Aviation work. They are a great family and will be missed!
We had several new families this weekend, that seemed to really engage and connect! Awesome. Just what we want. I love to see people when there heart is touched by the Holy Spirit and they began to let there guard down, and let God move in their lives!
It is all about helping people become fully devoted followers of Christ!

Coming home
Well, I have had a fun mini-vacation with Dara. We are in the airport now, trying to catch up on email, and a list of calls to return.
It seems like you have to work in overdrive to take a break, take a break, then start right back up in overdrive! But it was an awesome time for the two of us to get away for a couple days.
I have said (but I dont always practice) that is "if you don't come apart, you will come apart." I have had some time to regroup, and rethink. I am excited to get back home, and get going again!

Mens Fraternity
Clint Prohaska came to me about a month ago with a desire to help me really become men. He wanted to know if I was open to the idea of starting a men's group for growth, fellowship and accountability.
I told him no. J/K! I had actually been praying to someone would want to lead something like that! Perfect!
Well we have put our heads together and decided that we are going to link up with Point of Grace church in Waukee. They are launching a new Ministry called Men's Fraternity.
It is still in the launch phase and we are getting more info weekly about it. It is off the hook. I am so impressed. Here is the break down.
It is based on the thought that we are to be "authentic Men" like Jesus.
And "authentic man"
1. Resist Passivity
2. Accepts responsibility for God's work, will and woman
3. Leads Courageously
4. Expects God's greater reward.
This all sounds so simple, but most men aren't doing it! Not only is that what women really want us to be and do, they Bible teaches us to live this way.
Too often men have just sat back and not taken an active role in the family, finances, and romance of life. All this needs to change to a Biblical perspective!
Be watching men for the Mens Fraternity coming soon to JCFC. Your going to want to be a part!

Todays a good day
Just some perspective that everyday is a good day. I know we all face times that are difficult and bleak, but God created the day and He created it good.
So just take a moment and remember that it is ok.
I have been thinking about a lot of things lately. Stream lining, and changing, ad doing. I just want to make sure my priorities are right and aligned with what God wants.
Some times I find myself like Paul, when he said, "the things I want to do I dont do, and the things i don't want to do, I do."
I am praying thought, that with God's help, I can do the things he wants me to do.
I am taking a couple day break next week, for a short mini vacation with Dara. It is our anniversary next Tuesday. 9 Years!
It will be good to take a couple days and regroup. I am in the process of laying out some clear goals for the church over the next 5 years, and back them down to bite siz steps.
Things like how do we grow to 200 by Christmas? When do we purchase land, and look at a building project? What about staffing as we grow? Are the flt needs of the congregation being met? Are the needs of this community being met? What are the needs of this community?
The big questions are, are we staying missional, or have we slipped into maintenance mode?
How do we learn to serve, how do we model servanthood to others?
This weekend we are looking at John 13 where Jesus washes the feet of the disciples. He portrayed true servant leadership. Looking at Jesus example, begs the question, "why do we lead?" Why do you want to be in front? Why do I do what I do? Why do you?
Is it for a title? Is it for recognition? Is it some pride based thoughts? Or are we learning to follow the example of Jesus Christ?
So I have a lot on my mind. I didnt mean to get that deep!

Lunch with Joel
Getting ready to meet Joel Asmus for lunch in just a few minutes. Joel is one of those guys you can always count on. He is never late, and always gets the job done.
He has been with us since the beginning and filled several ministry roles. Right now he works with sound and technology faithfully on Sundays.
He really is a great guy. He got married a few months back, and that has taken him out of our lives a bit. (I dont know maybe he would rather spend time with his wife, than me... :)
So I am stoked to be having lunch with my friend Joel. You couldnt meet a nicer guy!

Weekend Update
Well we finished another great weekend at JCFC.
Lots of work, set up tear down, changes, a couple good videos about moms, some tears, and some laughter. We continued in our 10 commandments series, which has been fun.
I totally ran out of time looking at Mark 11 where Jesus cursed the fig tree, and drove out the money changers from the temple. It is a great story. Actually it was like a living parable that Jesus was teaching the disciples over a 3 day event.
The story sounds harsh, when we see Jesus cursing a tree and it dying, then overturning tables ad running out the merchants. The teaching really lies in the fact that prayer is the essential root issue in both stories, or the lack of it anyway.
The fig tree with leaves and no fruit represents believers who appear to be believers but have no evidence of the fruit in their life. As the temple looks like a temple, but has no prayer in it. If you have prayerless believers you will have a prayerless church.
I challenged everyone yesterday to begin to pray for our city, to join up with the other prayer partners we have and lets go wide and deep together.

Hanging out at Wells
This weekend we completed sermon number 4 in the 10 commandment series. Hanging out at Wells was something Jesus did on a regular basis.
I think it is paramount for believers to have lots of friends who are not part of the church. It is funny to me especially when a pastor only has friends with in the church body. We see Jesus with other believers yes, but often he was found with those who wasn't following him.
Today we should be living the same principles. It is crucial that we are building relationships with the people we come in contact with in our life. It is about helping people move closer to God.
Jesus' last command was to tell others about Him. I love the fact that the Bible teaches us to be with people. I hate hearing about this communal kind of thing happening, where people hole up in the mountains and never impact society.
I pray that as I move closer to God, I can be helpful in moving others closer to Him as well. I love the spiritual journey God has us on. I am growing in Him regularly as many in our church are too.
I love hearing the stories of those who have taken faith steps in Him. Who have decided that no matter what they would center their life on Jesus. I know that it is still difficult, and believers have issues, but I am so thankful for grace.
Grace. So simple, yet so often overlooked. It means that we are no longer condemned. (Romans 8:1)
Grace. Forgiveness when we don't deserve it (Romans 3:23 and 6:23)
Grace is the reason God came as a man. Grace is the reason I am passionate about wells. Grace is the reason I am believer today. Grace is the reason my father gave his life to Jesus some 33 years ago this weekend and changed my life forever.
Amazing Grace.

Well I am still alive
I know some of you quite reading and pull me from your lists... but I am back today.
It has been a crazy week, and I am ready for tomorrow. Thou Shalt Hang Out at Wells.
Should be awesome.
We are always making changes. I have this saying I stole from Ed Young. If it is not broke, break it.
So we are shifting things up a bit. I spent the morning with Nate and Shanna. We are bringing Shanna on part time to handle all of our Administrative Assistant work and to become the Director of Surroundings. She will be coordinating all of First Impressions as well as our volunteer base.
She will have a full plate, and I am pumped to see everything go the next level. So excited!
Congrats Shanna! Maybe I should say congrats Josh. She will bring some organization to my life!

weekend update
Every time I write "weekend update" I think about Jimmy Fallon, and his missing presence on SNL. Why do people do stop a good thing.
Anywho...
Today as great overall. We were able to show a couple videos. One was about the "Preach from Boats" sermon, and ending reminesecnt of Mr. Miagi from the Karate Kid... I will get the video up tomorrow evening hopefully.
The highlight of the service was showing Paul and Sandy May's testimonial. I will try to post it as well tomorrow.
They shared a protion of their heart, and what God has done for them in the last year. They were in the throws of a divorce, depression and big struggle in life in general. They got a flier pointing them to a Super Saturday in the park, and the rest they say is history. (I will lt you watch the video for the whole story).
Not sure about attendance yet, but good for a beautiful Sunday. We had lots of new moms home and some sick families, but it was great to see our awesome church family today.
I am excited about the future of the Buzz, and the band is really becoming a tight group. Jeff is now singing and really sounding great. Are they not doing a great job? Didn't how to say a life sound fantastic?
I am just so pumped about our direction, and overall feel.
We have several new videos to shoot, and families that are jumping at the chance to be vulnerable in front of the church body so that they an be an encouragement!
I love to see the church grow and move as a body.

A Servants heart
Man I went to Hy-Vee on Tuesday, and every time I am in there I am blown away.
There customer service is second to none. Every employee I saw said "Hello, can I help you, or have a nice day".
Off the Hook. I am thinking of having a meeting at the church for all staff and volunteers and having some Hy-Vee management come in and train us on customer service.
It is so vitally important that we are friendly and outgoing, and ready to serve others.
Think about it the next time your in Hy-Vee.
I think we need to make sure in the busyness of the weekend worship experience that people know we have time for them. That we are just "doing our jobs," but we genuinely want to help them with their needs.
Jesus modeled that so well. He came to serve not be served. Help us to have that same spirit.

Being more organized
I am working on getting things done in a more timely fashion and being more orgainzed. I have several loose granite ends that need to be tied up this week, I am going crazy. Also some church stuff, that I need to be more proactive about.
It just is hard for me sometimes. So I am taking small steps in my life to be more scheduled and disciplined to complete tasks 100%.
I have now scheduled my haircuts for the rest of the year! One small step for Josh, on giant leap for..
Well I dont know about a giant step, for anyone but as the old saying goes, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."
That is me right now. One bite at a time.

Sanjaya
Finally the dude has been voted off! If you dont know what I am talking about, where have you been?
This crazy fiasco almost ruined Idol for me...

My day off
I have been working hard at making sure I take Wednesdays off. I need a day to rest, and be creative in my mind.
Had a blast. Got some much needed rest, and Colin and I got haircuts.
After a late lunch, I went biking. We found this cool old brickyard off the Sycamore Trail in Des Moines. Sweet place to ride. Well as I was powering up the hill, right as I was shifting gears, I noticed my left pedal felt weird...
BAM, then it happened the whole left crank and pedal fell off as I was standing up pedaling up the hill. I was just about to the top, and ready to do some cool drops... well we finally found the bolt, but didn't have any way to put it back together...
So I limped it back to the truck, and took it right to Scheels, muddy and everything.
They should have it done today.
Crazy, but a blast.

My brother the Soccer Mom

My little brother traded his truck in this week for a new minivan.
Hold on now, he is 21 but very practical. The truck was just too expensive (gas wise) so on Monday he traded for a new van.
He called me last night and told me some of the girls from the office have been calling him The Soccer Mom....
Too funny. Of course Caleb just rolls with it... Rarely ever rattled. You should meet him sometime.

Thou Shalt Preach From Boats
This weekend we are looking at JCFC command number 2.
Thou Shalt Preach From Boats. I am stoked about it. We will be looking at the text where the crowd got too big to hear from Jesus, so he went out on a boat to speak. He created an amphitheater of sorts so all could hear him.
I love how every time you turn around Jesus was doing something new. He did whatever it took for people to be able to interact with him, and hear what he had to say. Preaching from a boat, pulling Zac down from the tree, talking to Samaritan women at a well.
Out of the box stuff. As far as we know no one had ever preached from a boat before. Great idea...
Just shows me that there are all kinds of ways to minister that we have never even thought of before.
So excited. Join us this weekend, as we pray God shows you where you fit in ministry -even if it means preaching from a boat!

What a Week So Far
What can you say in regards to this Virginia tech deal. Such tragedy. It is really sad to know this guy was so low, so discouraged that he felt like the only thing to do was to take out all these innocent people.
Our hearts and prayers are with the students, families, and facilty at VT.
Words just don't express what is happening.
I am already tired of the reporters asking dumb questions. We all have more questions than answers.

Weekend update
Easter last weekend we had 159, and today we had 141! Awesome. I love only being 10% down from a Big Event Weekend.
Baby dedications are one of my favorite things! We dedicated Landon Mumm and Kennedy O'Brien. Awesome! So great to see young families making commitments to serve God through their children.
I so much love the place we are in. God is doing awesome things in the lives of the church family.
We are filming video testimonies this week for the next several sermons. I am so pumped about those willing to share their heart about what God has done in the last year and half. It is so great to sit down with a family and find out just how awesome God has been in their lives.
I am talking about marriages restored. Those not even sure about faith coming to the saving knowledge of Jesus. From drug addiction to new careers. From Suicide to New Life.
I Love the text that says he will bring beauty for ashes, strength for fears, gladness for mourning, and peace for despair.
We lose a bit of that community of the body with our time constraints at the theater. I am jazzed about getting them on video, for all to share.
Don't miss this next week, as we look at Thou Shalt Preach From Boats.

Trusty

I was cruising around on my sisters website tonight and found a picture of my favorite dog in all my life. Trusty!
As some of you know, we had some great times together. We had a lot of dogs, but Trusty is one I always counted as mine. Caleb had Fancy, (argh she is a long story). Kim probably claims them all, as well as the cows, horses, birds, turtles etc. Anything we caught or had...
Here he is. The greatest dog in the history of dogs... I will post some more about him later.

Just another day
Too many times we go through our busy days thinking just that. Well its just another day.
The reality is that it is never just another day. You have no idea the things those around you are going through and your response to the Holy Spirit moving in your life may be pivotal in their journey with God.
To many, our Super Saturdays last summer could have been just another day. But not so to Paul and Sandy May. It was the beginning of a turn around in their life, as they showed up to an event from a flyer left on their door.
They now are plugged in and letting God lead them in their life.
To some the day Morgan Dutler reached out to a co-worker and invited Sophia Toscano to this new church meeting in a theater, could have been just another day... But it was a life changing day in the life of Sophia and her boys.
Or how about when Irene from Kenya invited Ra-jeet to come to JCFC. He came and has given his life to Jesus Christ. Could have been just another day, but it wasn't.
Ra-jeet has since moved back to India. I thought he was gone forever, but he showed up Sunday for Easter. He hugged me, and told me that Jesus told him to come back and be a part of our church.
2 Corinthians 6:2b... now is the day of salvation.
Its not just another day. It very could be the day of salvation for that person next to you in line, or the gas station attendant, or that coworker you have been having lunch with for weeks.
Be responsive to what the Holy Spirit is prompting you to do and say. Remember its not the devil or something weird in your mind telling you to invite that person to church.
Don't forget this is a tag team deal. You invite and bring them to church, tag me. I preach and give the gospel, tag you. You then continue that relationship, and follow up with it.
We grow as Christ-followers, they grow, and the church grows!
Awesome!

Lori's chocolate cake
Well, it is Tuesday/ Wednesday morning and I haven't heard of any orders for Lori's cake.
I am serious when I say you should order one. I know she said that she wanted to wait until after Easter. It is now after Easter.
Well, I guess we have had one order. I think my sister is using it for her grooms cake in STL!
See she hasn't even tasted it, but she is ready to get one!
hmm... you need to get a mental taste of the chocolate right now...

Membership
I know that some of you have been wondering when we are having our next membership meeting.
Here is the deal. I am looking at dates and locations for our next JCFC 101 class.
We are going to do it on Sunday lunch time. We will meet at 11:45 or so, have lunch together and then go right though the teaching. We will finalize everything about 2.30.
It should be awesome.
If you havent taken a 101 class now is the time!
I will post about the dates, get it on the calendar with a registration this week.

10 Commandments of JCFC
Here it is... the new e invite for the upcoming series.
Use it to invite your friends to service this weekend. It is going to rock!
I. Thou shalt turn water to wine.
We will be looking at Jesus first miracle and how it set the stage for his ministry. I love how Jesus turns the mess into a miracle.
So often we see the mess, and just think, bummer. Where is our involvement in the lives of those around us? Jesus took a moment that was a crisis, and used it to bring God glory.
What is your first thought in a situation out of your control? Do you worry? Do you physically try to solve it? Do you what to ask for God's help? Do you think he is too busy to help you?
What did it matter if the ran out of wine? They had already been there for while. So what was the big deal? The family would be embarrassed? Doesn't seem like something to get all worked up about and perform a miracle, though, does it?
Or does it? Maybe we need to remember that God is a God of details. Not just a god off in the distance hoping it all works out for you. He even knows how many hair you have on your head.
For some that is an easier thing to keep track of...
Michon.... does it mess with the system when you are doing a transplant... though?
Come out this week and be a part of our Sunday Morning worship experience.

New babies and amazing women
Just wanted to give a shout out to the new babies and moms at JCFC.
The Pattersons have a new addition -Landon, and as of 9:55 Tuesday morning so do the Wetzels, and she is named Zaida.
Everyone is healthy and doing great!
I also wanted to say how awesome our ladies are at JCFC. They just stepped up and are bringing it! They are falling all over themselves trying to get meals coordinated for these new babies families!
Some ladies are bringing food to families they barely know!
I love to see the servant's heart of Jesus being shown.

Chasing Turkeys
First before you go any further read this.
Perry Noble's Blog
Good, now that you have done that. I agree with him. I fit that profile to a T. I find myself wanting to defend to the "death" things that seemingly come against what I am passionate about.
Namely critical people. What I need to be careful about is not being critical of critical people, thus becoming a critical person. Did that make sense...
Perry, thanks for the insight from a dumb 'ol turkey.
Its funny how God can speak right to you from the simplest things if we would just listen.
So I apologize if my Pharisee comments crossed the line. ( I still have beef with them, but maybe I need to change my thought processes.)
Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Great thought. I love the part about being transformed by the renewing of our minds. It implies it is a continual process. We need to be continually renewed!
Thank God he is doing that for me.

Easter Video?
Ok, does the easter video play on your computer when you go to my blog immediately? It does now when I open my page...
Please tell me what it does on your computer. That would be crazy annoying if it plays every time we open the page...

Easter Video
Ok. Learning a few things here. Trying to get this video up and running. I have successfully squashed it down to play. But working on getting it uploaded.
If this doesnt work, my man Paul can fix anything computer related. Maybe we can get him a business rolling like we are working on Pastor Lori's cake business.
The way I figure it, if that kid can do radio spots for the guy who works on computers, then Paul can rock the mic... or whatever is computer lingo for being at the top!

Pharisees
You know what really bothers me today? Modern day Pharisees. They really get me fired up.
I hate it when "christians" think that they have the market cornered on God. They act like their church is the only one going to make it. Quick to harshly judge all others who don't do church just like them. Then they go down the condemnation road... and act all pious and grand.
ARGHHH.
Its funny to me how Christians get hung on little things, but just overlook pride and self deception in their own life.
"When Pride walks on the stage God walks off." -Ed Young 2007 C3
The church is supposed to be the Body of Christ, yet we spend so much time cutting eachother up instead of encouraging and edifying. If we could really present a united front for the kingdom we could change this community for His glory. The self-righteous aren't going to change anyone, just hurt other believers and discourage unbelievers from trusting.
The text teaches that our righteousness if like filthy rags. We only can put on the righteousness of Christ. If we are really wearing His righteousness, we won't act like the Pharisees. The antithesis of who Christ really is.
Ever study the original text of what the word filthy rags meant to the Jew? It really implies the thought of the material that women used during their menstrual cycle. We loose that in translation. Changes the thought huh?
We often illustrate that thought in sermon by holding up a dirty, oily rag. But think about what the text really says, and what it would have meant when it was said to someone in Jesus day. Jesus wasn't impressed with the righteousness of the Pharisees. You make the implication.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that the way we do church is perfect. Hmm... no church is. I fully understand it takes all kinds of approaches to reach everyone. IE the difference between Peter and Paul's style of ministry in Acts, is a perfect example of two totally different church styles. But come on lets not eat each other bones and all.
Pharisees read the book of James. You know Jesus brother. It might help with some relationships.
I am just disgusted.

Easter and Murphy's Law
Got to love the Easter Weekend and Murphy's law.
Of course on a day that is packed with people we would have things crash!
We had 159 in service and it was awesome. Several had family and friends in, and some where guests who saw some signs!
Have to say our "sign department" has been the best advertisement we have ever had.
Anywho.
During worship, about the third song in a breaker blew. The music was drawing some power and we added a new set of lights to take some of the shadow off the band. Then our first video had no audio... powerful video though. I will try to post it later today for you to watch.
Overall good service. Not my best sermon ever, I was honestly a bit distracted because my final point was ANOTHER VIDEO. I was scrambling n my mind to think, now what? The first one didnt work, what about this one...
The IT Team did an awesome job! They ran the audio from one, and the video from another computer, synced it up and TADA! Worked.
You guys rock!
Got to love Easter. Got to connect with several people. And great to see so many worshiping God together!

First Annual Easter Egg Hunt
Crazy is all I have to say. It was like 28 degrees out today for the Easter Egg Hunt.
But it didn't stop some 200+ people from scavenging up 10,000 eggs. It was crazy. They took them all!
The DM Register was there taking pics. They should have them up on th web today. I will post once I find it! They also are running an article or pics in the paper next week!
Anyways, cold, but it was awesome.
Pops to Lori our children's pastor, and Team Easter. You guys rocked it today!
I spoke with a few families that said they will be there in the morning! Excellent!

Lessons in Leadership
Well the past two years have been great, humbling at times, high times, but most of all growing times. I have given a lot of thought as to who I am, what I am really about, and what drives me. I have really grown as a leader in several ways.
Some of the Lessons in Leadership I have learned I have learned the hard way. I try to learn from others as often as possible, but there are things you just cant know unless you walk that road. There have been roads I have started to go down, and realized yikes, that isn't what I thought it was. I want to share a few things in leadership I have learned in the past few years.
1. Do the hard part first.
It always seems better to let things ride, but it is just not the case. It is better to address the situation at hand NOW. Not like the candy now or later...
2. You don't need everyone that comes to your church.
Sounds contradictory to church growth but its not. Sometimes you grow by subtraction. There are those who cant get the big idea, and are too self-centered to help you grow this thing for the sake of the kingdom.
Spiritual maturity is not self centered!
3. Deeper is doing.
Deep Christianity isn't being able to say I prayed for 16,000 hours this week. Put some feet to the Text. Application. I am glad God is speaking to you and all, but what are you doing with what He is saying.
4. Put up or shut up.
Do I need to explain that one? Nah.
5. Be slow to Hire slow and fast to fire.
Be slow to hire, so that you get the right person at the right times. Then when it isn't working, and the team member isn't really on the team. "Free them to do ministry elsewhere."
Some "fireable" offensives at JCFC
1. Disloyalty. You're done. End of discussion.
2. Lying. If you will lie to me, you'll lie to church, your spouse and to God.
3. Talking about your compensation package. It only breeds disunity and jealousy on the team.
By the way, you can fire volunteers and those you have hired from within. It isn't easy or fun. But it can be done with a right heart.
6. Go with your gut.
You need to be able to react to those strong gut feelings. Trust your heart (or your wife, women have better discernment usually than us dumb men).
7. Dream Bigger
We often don't dream big enough. We limit God, and bore the entrepreneurs in our church.
If your not making the finance team nervous your not dreaming big enough.
8. Take the Risk
Seriously life is too short not to have all the chips on the table. Your are either all in or all out. What dance around, and never really get it done? Take the risk, its all just time and money anyway.
9. Nothing is really sacred.
Its just a building, or a chair, or a screen. Get over it. They are all just tools for us to use to reach more people. This thing isn't about buildings, or numbers, or dollars. It is about seeing changed lives once Jesus lives in their life. It is about making disciples, and them duplicating themselves.
10. You don't always have to have 10 items in the list, or 3 points in a sermon for that matter!

Thursday Night late
Getting ready to crash in a minute. I was thinking about my week though. I have been able to log some quality time with my kids and wife, sermon is almost done, (Angela has my notes for the worship guide) we have two videos for the weekend, E-news letter is emailed, constructed some props for the 10 Commands series, looked at potential property for the church, had several meetings, three new songs for the weekend including "Where the Streets Have No Name."
Over all it has been great. I am excited about our 10,000 easter egg hunt on Saturday. Then off to the big Easter service this weekend.
Most people will respond positively to an invite on Easter weekend. Go ahead. You may not know whose life will be forever changed from this encounter.
Use the e invite, forward the e news letter, call them up, call them up, and tell them what you want, just ask someone.
Isn't your salvation experience meaningful enough to push the envelope on the easiest day of the year to ask your neighbor? Lend me some sugar I am your neighbor (some of you will get that, others will just think I am up too late again.)
It is going to be off the hook this weekend. I cant wait to speak on Sunday about the resurrection.

Death of a close friend
My friend Steve, aka my trusty assistant, called me tonight to talk about his friend who was killed in a freak ATV accident this weekend. It is always troubling when someone your age dies.
It is funny how we all feel invincible and that nothing like that can happen to us. The older I gte the more precious life becomes to me. The Bible truly is right on, when it says our life is just like a mist, it appears for a moment then vanishes away!
Stop and think about life. What is it really? What about after that death moment? Then what?
Maybe this Easter you can join us at 10:15 (9:15 for the Buzz) for service. As we celebrate Life together.

10 Commandments of JCFC

Here is the tag line.
Do you ever wonder how the church is relevant to you today? Join us as we look at 10 things Jesus said and did during his lifetime, and how we apply them at JCFC. Let's see what God's Word says about religious people, hanging out at wells, cursing fig trees, and much more. It may surprise you. We are not your average church. Come and expect the unexpected.
We will be looking at 10 different events that happened and Jesus life and how they inspire us as a church today. Really it may change your mind about who Jesus is, and what the church really is. Jesus was a man's man. Sometimes we see him as kind of an effiminant man who spoke with a lisp, and wore a toga. Never smiling, and always somber.
Jesus really was a radical visionary who thought outside the box all the time. He made the religious crazy. He made things happen. People's lived were changed!
Check us out this weekend for easter!
Easter
Don't forget to invite your friends, neighbors and everyone you meet to service this weekend. It could be a life changing event for them!
Use the e invite to touch those email friends you have!
Going to be awesome! We will be looking at the final sermon in our series! He Conquered!
Talking about the resurrection! Which is what it is all about.

Property, buildings, and West Des Moines
Spent some time this afternoon tooling around WDM, in the Jordan Creek Area looking at property. Man is it fun and gets me stoked. We looked at lots from 10 acres to 35. Crazy.
Just for the record, some property is selling in the JC area for $7 a foot. You know that it is expensive when it is priced per foot. Man. (some 43000 feet in an acre, you do the math)
Anyways, we are looking at getting something going in the next year, and trying to get an idea of what we need and want. I have been talking with some architects about the plans of what we need to build. Hopefully in the next month or so we will have a rendering of the prelimaniry drawings. This is just the beginning stages, but we can set it out in the foyer on a stand and begin to dream.
I love to dream outloud because it is free! Lets pray together for property and know that God has a plan.
I would love to purchase 25-30+ acres to build the church and facilities on. So pray we find favor with some owners. There are some amazing pieces of ground!

Cake Again
Ok let me clear up some of this cake issue. I am catching heat from everyone, because I am not sharing.
The deal is, I don't like a lot of sweet deserts, but I LOVE this cake. Seriously, I am not sharing it. You just need your own.
So here is what I have done:
You can email Lori at eilersrl@gmail.com she will be happy to make you a cake for $20. She will even deliver it if you live within 10 miles of the Metro. I am telling you, it is the best chocolate cake you will ever eat.
Order one, really, I am not kidding.

Chocolate Cake

Take a look at this cake. You may not be able to tell in the photo, but it is Pastor Lori's homemade chocolate cake. (she has been holding out on me) But she came through last night with this awesome cake.
I have to say it is the best chocolate cake I have ever had!
Crazy good.
Go ahead and request one. It will be a staple cake in our coffee shop once we are rolling in that at the church! (maybe Drew Stinson's chicken salad too. Go by the Marketplace in Jordan Creek and try it out!)
Awesome cake.... my, my, my...
Color Change
This week Dara is helping me with my blog colors. Apparently it isnt the right colors. Since she is the color specialist in our home, I am going to let her run with it! So soon it should be better!
I am excited to see what it will look like!

Walmart Salvation
I spoke with my Dad a bit ago. He and some people from their church went to yout meeting in Kentucky this weekend. They were traveling back this afternoon when one of the guys in the church's car had a blow out.
They were in the middle of nowhere and had to leave everyone at a gas station and travel 20 minutes or so to a Walmart. While my Dad and his friend where there they got to talking to the guy at the Tire Lube Express, and they were able to lead him to Jesus.
I always say, whatever it takes to win someone to Jesus. Even if it means messing up someone else's schedule. Some of us need to have our schedules jacked a bit, and not get ruffled, but look for some Divine Appointments!

Sunday Update and Randomness
Just finished a long day. Today was one of those if it can go wrong it will kind of days. I hate waking up a bit late on Sunday. It just sets the mood wrong ya know.
Anyway, Everything still went on, and the BUZZ was pretty funny. We added some new mics, and are working on some more lighting. The actors did a great job today!
Service was great. Dara and Nate did a great job with worship today. Jeff added a nice dynamic with his singing and playing!
We had 136 today. Another record day for JCFC. I am so pumped about this week. The Passion week just pushes me beyond myself as I recall all Jesus went through. Powerful.
I challenge you to read Matthew 21-28 this week and try to put yourself in the scene as a bystander. Watch how people responded to Jesus through out the week. Think about how you would have acted. See the agony on his face, as he looks at you. Think about it. Read a chapter a day. Or read all 7 chapters everyday. Better yet.
Had a great team meeting tonight. I love to be able to laugh and be creative and plan. We have an awesome team that is ready to run for the summer! We are stoked about what is coming. WhoooHoo!

easter weekend
I am at the office finishing up for the new Series, He Came He Conquered. (I challenge you to use the e invite on www.jordancreek.org to invite your friends) Anyway just thinking about who Jesus is and what he means to me.
I have had several interesting conversations this week from people from all kinds of backgrounds. I spent an hour alking with a woman who is openly agnostic, but admits she doesnt really know anything about the Bible. She really is pretty dis-enfranchised from the church due to some crazy experiences in the past in a dysfunctional church. I also spoke with some guys from an Amish/ Mennonite background.
So in just today alone I have dealt with who is Jesus and what does it mean to be born again, to infant baptism, the anti-war sentiments and sowing your wild oats peppered with several "well i just believe" statements with no real text or evidence to back it up.
So very fitting as we look at this weekend about who Jesus is, why he came and can we be sure of our faith in Jesus.
Next weekend on easter we will be looking solely at the resurrection.
Invite your friends. I am thinking of celebrating Easter with Communion this year as well.

A week in review
I cant believe that it is Friday already. I am sitting in our green chair in the corner of the bedroom, just collecting my thoughts for the week. Wow, it has just flown by.
I am trying hard to take Wednesdays off, I am 2 for 3 now in 3 weeks. Pretty good. This Wednesday I took my new bike out for a good breaking ride. I also realized that I was glad we were riding on a nice trail and not a good old dirt track. Get in better shape man!
We also took the kids to the Science center this week. They loved it.
Tonight we finished off the week with diner at Flemings. A very nice steakhouse at Jordan Creek. Upscale. New York Strip, hmmm.
Then headed off to see Jars of Clay play at Val-Air. They were good, but the opening band Need to Breathe was awesome. I am a new fan....
I had several productive meetings this week and some critical conversations. I used to fear some confrontation, but have grown to understand that conflict facilitates change. And change is good.
Dara is helping me become more organized, I still am a "piler," though. I am working on not just making piles of papers. We sat down last night, and sorted through a bunch of sermon series ideas I have for the rest of the year.
We have some killer stuff coming! We are doing an easter Mini-series called He Came, He Conquered. Then the 10 Commandments of JCFC, followed by a chapter by chapter teaching on James called Deeper is Doing.
In the middle of the Summer we are doing a new series called "The Peoples Choice." We will have some of the sermons up on the web from the past year, so that everyone will be able to vote for their favorite sermons. Then I will preach the top 4 back to back for 4 weeks. Get ready!
More even to come, Galatians, Chase the Lion, Advent, God at the Billboards, a series called God, Love and Sex... and the list continues. I am so pumped about what God is going to be doing in our services in the next year!
This weekend is our last Cantaloupe Sermon. We are challenging every Christ Follower to begin the Biblical practice of tithing. It will be great as we learn to trust God!

Alpha
We had an amazing Alpha on Tuesday. The evening talk was about reading our Bible, and the authority of the Scripture. Before the evening was over we all just shared about how God is really doing some great things in our life, and how Alpha has really brought that to our attention.
It was really amazing to see how our church has changed lives, just in the last few months. Casey Port, Heather Wilson, and Dara just really opened their hearts about what God has been bringing to their attention lately. It was awesome to see the raw emotion and power of God in their lives!
Great night!

Cantaloupes

Each of us are given a certain amount of Cantaloupes in our life by God and it is up to us to decide how we use them, and whether or not we bring glory to God with them.
Join us this weekend as we enter the realm of the Cantaloupes. By the way if you sit on the first couple of rows, you might want to bring a poncho. Maybe we should provide some.... Anyone remember Gallagher...?
Amazing Weekend
Wow, we just finished our Baggage Sermon series yesterday. Spoke about recovering from depression. This series has been a great series, since we all have some kind of baggage we carry around. I know that many people deal with depression, as it is a real issue in society today.
We talked about several ways you can begin to deal with depression, but ultimately we need to seek Jehovah-Rapha. Another name for Jesus and God. It literally means that He is our Healer.
Well we had 122 people in service and praise God for a good offering! Since we have had to cancel a service and two snowy days this first part of the year, we needed it! It was awesome.
My fast is still going strong. I have to say I was pretty hungry right after service, the first time since Thursday evening. I felt like it was a bit of a spiritual attack. So I prayed right be fore we went to Culver's and was fine the whole time. Even while Awnna ate those delicious fried cheese curds right across from me!
We had a great team meeting last night. Lots of laughter and camaraderie. We got a lot accomplished as we discussed the upcoming events, and recast the Vision of who we are as a church!
Here is the recap.
Remember we are a church designed for unbelievers. If you want to just exist as believer and not be involved in reaching new people for Jesus, then you might should try some other churches in town. We are passionate about changed lives.
Remember we are passionate about creating an environment that allows people to encounter God in a life changing way! Everything we do, is based on that.
Remember that building great relationships is paramount. It is vital as people, and critical as a new believer!
Also I am willing to do whatever it takes to get people inside our church to experience God. I am tired of so many Christians who just tell all their neighbors to just go ahead and go to hell, by not interacting with them in any way.
The Gospel is built on Jesus saying to the Pharisees that the all the text hangs on the commands that say, first, Love God with all you Heart, and second, Love your neighbor as your self.
If we really love God with all our heart we will act and be different that we are. If we love our neighbor as our self, we will be broken that those around us don't know Jesus and have a relationship with him.
Let's really live like Jesus lived.

UNLOCKED.
Well my blog was locked for a few days. It was considered a "potential Spam Blog." Whatever that really is.
It is funny. I know that I haven't been very faithful to blog on a regular basis this new year, but Thursday when I was really ready - it was locked up.
I am glad that is back to normal. I am trying to get some rhythm to my life. We have been working hard as a family to set up some boundaries and try to live by them.
I resisted it a bit at first, but now I am really ready to run with it. This new year has been pretty overwhelming at times, and talking it out with Dara and making a real plan has been helpful.
The last few days have been great. I have been fasting with only juice or smoothies since Wednesday. I have loved it. Fasting really is FUN. I have had some clear thoughts d been able to dial in my listening skills with God.
The first few days I was hungry at times, and my stomach growled a bit. But now I am not even hungry. (I still miss the eating crunchy things). I even cooked a whole beef stew for the family today. It smelled awesome. Dara and Awnna said it was great. I think I am going to freeze some of it!
Tomorrow will be an interesting day. Jason and Shari(our worship leaders) will be leaving after tomorrow. They have done a great job in helping us get to this point.
We are also finishing our sermon series called Baggage. It deals with overcoming depression. There are so many people who battle with this, it is amazing.
Chances are before your life is over you will be dramatically effected by someone who has a bout with depression.
Check out the podcast on Monday. It is usually up and running but Sunday evening.

Workaholicism. Is that a word
Well, it sure is fun when the pastor gets convicted about his own sermons. We have been preaching through the Baggage series and I admitted two weeks ago that I have some addictions. I am a workaholic and am dealing with how I slow down. It is hard to admit I have a problem sometimes, and even harder to really say I need help.
I have been hardwired to just handle whatever comes my way and that seems like a good thing. It has been for us, and I love to work, but I need to reprogram.
Tomorrow starts some reprogramming in a lot of ways. I am working hard to ties up loose ends, and finalize projects. But I feel like personally and spiritually we are facing some pretty intense weeks ahead. So in the morning I am beginning a 21 day fast.
I am asking for your prayers, and you to join with me on whatever level that means for you. I will be only drinking water and juice. (tragic almost since I just brought home 391 pounds of fresh beef from my dad.) You can go on a juice fast, water only fast, only vegetables etc. The idea is not to make it legalistic, but a time to set your heart to be in tune with God.
I know the scriptures about boasting about fasting is receiving our reward (in regards to hypocrites in Matthew 6:16-18). I am writing about it so that you can join with me.
Fasting is a spiritual discipline that we need to work on as church and as individuals. It clears your mind to really hear from God.
Remember Fasting is Fun!

Mark Driscoll
Here is the recap of Marks talk today. check out daras blog for Ed Young and Craig Groeschel.
Religion says if you obey God He will love you.
Gospel says, because God loves you, you can obey.
Religion says world about good and bad people.
Gospel sees people as repentant and unrepentant.
Religion is about your birth family.
Gospel doesn’t care about your natural birth, but your new birth.
Religion is about what I do.
Gospel is about what Jesus has done.
Religion is about getting from God. (make me happy, give me what I want. Religion is the stick and God is the piƱata)
Gospel is about giving God as the gift.
Religion sees hardship as punishment.
Gospel recognizes not all suffering is bad. Good fruit can come out of suffering.
Religion ends u in two wicked places. About me it ends in pride or despair.
Gospel ends in confident humility.
The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation. Do you really love God or do you love
religion?
Take a moment and really think about the false gospel of religion that only leads to idolatry and despair.
